Former Wolves striker Don Goodman has insisted that the club’s medical staff deserve “enormous credit” for the work they have done over the past two seasons.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have had no serious injuries to any of their players since the Portuguese boss took over two seasons ago.

Speaking to the Express & Star, Goodman – who made 125 appearances for Wolves – praised the medical staff for keeping the squad at full fitness.

“You have to give enormous credit to the people behind the scenes, the physios and the sports scientists who analyse all of the data,” the 53-year-old said.

“They prepare the team to be able to give maximum effort, week in and week out. They need enormous credit for that because we’re in a world where teams like Manchester City have two world class players in every position and can manage those scenarios.

“For Wolves to do what they’ve done, with such a small squad, is commendable. And Nuno has managed them perfectly.”

OPINION

It really is quite a remarkable statistic that Wolves have had no serious injuries to any of their players, and that is definitely a key reason for their success over the past two seasons, in which time Wolves have come up to the Premier League as champions of the Championship and made a massive statement by finishing seventh – one place behind the unmovable top six – in their first season. Out of all the plaudits that have gone to the different people involved in the Wolves project and their different roles – from the players themselves to Nuno – this is perhaps the most underrated set of plaudits. Without a decent set of medical professionals at the club, there is no way you can expect to keep all of your best players fit, and there is therefore no way you can challenge in the league. But this Wolves medical staff have exceeded all expectations, and it is good that Goodman has pointed it out.
