Lucas Perez is set to fly out to Spain to complete a move away from West Ham, according to Football Insider.

The £80,000-a-week striker [Spotrac] has struggled to impress during his debut season at the Hammers, and it is understood that he is on the cusp of joining La Liga side Alaves.

A medical is believed to have been scheduled for this weekend after the Irons accepted a £2.2 million offer.

OPINION

This has felt like an inevitability for some time now, so if Perez does wrap up a move away from West Ham this weekend it will hardly be a surprise. From the outset, when he joined from Arsenal last summer, he felt like a panic buy. He had never really impressed for the Gunners during his spell there, and it was little bemusing as to why the Hammer thought his fortunes could turn around so rapidly under their guidance. As it is, after one year and a handful of half-decent performances, he looks to be on his way out, and it’s probably for the best. £80,000-a-week is a decent chunk to get off the wage bill, and even though the transfer fee might be a little underwhelming, it makes sense to move Perez on now rather than further down the line. He won’t be too missed at all.
