West Ham co-chairman David Gold has said that he wants midfielder Declan Rice to see out the remainder of his contract at the London Stadium.

England international Rice was reportedly the subject of interest from the likes of Manchester City and Manchester United earlier this year after an impressive season under Manuel Pellegrini.

As quoted by Claret & Hugh, Gold added that there have been no inquiries for the 20-year-old thus far.

“We want him here for the six years on his contract and another six after that. He is the complete package as a player and a person,” the co-chairman said.

OPINION

This has got to be the approach that West Ham take with Rice, they cannot just think that it is inevitable that a bigger club will come in with a massive bid for the midfielder and that they will lose him. Anything can happen in football, and the Hammers must make use of what they have got with Rice while they can. The player had an amazing season with the East London club and has definitely asserted himself as a key part of this West Ham team. He is so key to what Pellegrini’s side are good at and is one of the main reasons the Hammers finished 10th in the Premier League. Next season, there is no doubt that Rice will be even more integral to the side, and after a decent showing in the latest internationals with England, he will be ready to kick on and progress again under Pellegrini next term.
