Tony Cascarino and Georgie Bingham both took cheeky digs at West Ham attacker Andy Carroll due to a member of talkSPORT’s staff having the same name.

The pair shared that Carroll, not the footballer, was in charge of hosting Saturday’s Time Tunnel, which is a musical quiz between the duo and Cascarino took the time to make it clear that they weren’t referring to the Hammers forward.

“Just to remind people I know I say this week in and week out, Andy Carroll isn’t the footballer, he is one of the team on talkSPORT,” said Cascarino on talkSPORT (10:05am, Saturday June 1st).

This prompted Bingham to say that the talkSPORT team member could be the Hammers forward, and this led to the pair both taking a cheeky dig at the 30-year-old attacker.

“I mean he has probably played more football this year,” said Cascarino.

Bingham responded: “Wow, I was gonna say he has gone absence less than Andy Carroll has, unfortunately for Andy Carroll.”

OPINION

While both clearly were being cheeky with their digs at Carroll, as Bingham even shared her sorrow for the West Ham forward’s lack of playing time, their timing was a little off. The Hammers officially confirmed via their website on Wednesday that Carroll was set to depart the club when his contract ended on June 30th. Given that the exit-bound player is no doubt going to struggle to find a new home due to his injury record, maybe it isn’t the time for cheap jokes. Carroll managed only 12 league appearances for the Hammers in his 2018/19 campaign and was unable to get on the score sheet. While the 30-year-old has previously been a force in the Premier League, he has scored 53 goals in 211 appearances in the English top-flight, his injury record likely means he faces an uphill battle finding a club next season. Carroll’s injury record is so bleak that it actually takes up two pages on his Transfermarkt profile.
