Tottenham must meet Roma’s valuation of £44million if they are to prise forward Cengiz Under away from the Serie A club, according to Turkish-Football.

The Turkish news outlet claims that Spurs, who are expected to spend big this summer as Mauricio Pochettino aims to take his side to the next level, are keen on bringing the 21-year-old to North London.

Under had a brilliant season in the Italian top flight, netting three goals and assisting eight others in 26 appearances, but Turkish-Football adds that Roma will not be lowballed into letting the 18-time Turkish international leave.

It is understood that Spurs have already been in contact with Under’s representatives about a potential switch to London.

OPINION

If this report is true, it should not hamper Spurs’ hopes of bringing the player in. Pochettino knows that having not signed a player in two transfer windows, he must spend big if he is to take the club to the next level. And at 21 years of age, there would be nothing wrong with matching Roma’s valuation of Under. He already looks a fantastic talent and at his age, there is every chance he would progress at Spurs. What’s more, we have all seen how well Pochettino can develop young players. But the Turkish-Football report says there could be a few problems, even if Spurs agree to pay £44million. Under is reportedly one of Roma’s lowest-paid players and still has three years left on his contract, meaning it could be harder than first thought to prise the player away. Either way, he would be an exciting addition to the English top flight.
