Tottenham Hotspur should act swiftly in their reported pursuit of Sporting CP midfielder Bruno Fernandes to avoid missing out.

According to A Bola, Spurs are “ready to attack” in their pursuit of the goal-scoring playmaker, turning their attentions to the Portugal international after failing to agree a fee with Real Betis over the transfer of Giovani Lo Celso.

The outlet also claim that the midfielder has a release clause in his contract worth around £88.5million, with Liverpool and Manchester United also showing interest, however this seems like a fair price to pay for the player considering how good he has been this season.

Fernandes has honestly been one of the most lethal and clinical midfielders in Europe this season, scoring a mesmerising 32 goals in all competitions for Sporting this season.

In addition to this, the 6ft midfielder (Source: Transfermrkt) has also registered 18 assists, which are some outstanding numbers for a midfielder playing at the top level in the Liga NOS.

After reportedly showing interest in the player, Mauricio Pochettino should put all of his efforts into signing Fernandes, and move swiftly before another club comes in for him, as he could potentially be the player who pushes Spurs on to challenge for the title alongside Liverpool and Manchester City.

And it would be disappointing if he ended up at one of Spurs’ Premier League rivals.

Fernandes has also performed extremely well on the European stage for Sporting this season, scoring three times and registering two assists in the Europa League this season, and this experience would come in handy for Spurs next season in the Champions League.

Pochettino would find a difficult task in trying to find someone better this summer transfer window, as Fernandes is currently one of the best performing midfielders in Europe, if not the world, so the deal needs to be taken seriously.
