OPINION
It was a moment of history for Spurs on Saturday that quickly turned badly for them under the lights in Madrid. The clubs first ever appearance in a Champions League final ended in defeat to Premier League rivals Liverpool in a fiercely contested game which Tottenham got the best of for large spells throughout the contest. The first minute of the game did not help Mauricio Pochettino’s chances of lifting silverware as Moussa Sissoko handled a cross in his own box which allowed Mo Salah to rifle a penalty home before many of the players had chance to work up a sweat. Tottenham reacted magnificently and had plenty of chances to change the tide of the game before it was put to bed by a sweet Divock Origi drive into the bottom corner. Tottenham may have lost but they earned many plaudits for the way they took the game to Liverpool who were considered big favourites in the tie. One moment that was captured after the game was the emotional Kieran Trippier thanking the Spurs fans while holding back the tears and the Tottenham fans reacted in their droves on Twitter, with one fan calling the defender a “class act”.
