Leicester City defender Harry Maguire has taken to social media to send a message to Tottenham wing-back Kieran Trippier after the club’s Champions League final defeat.

The Englishman was quick to console his international teammate after the heartbreak of the final, and commented on Trippier’s Instagram post after the final whistle.

Trippier played the full 90 minutes as Spurs fell to a 2-0 defeat to Liverpool, and the final was his eighth appearance in the competition this season.

The 28-year old posted a photo from his personal Instagram account, captioned: “We are hurting from last night but must try and see the positives from another memorable season,

“A huge thanks to those that travelled out to Madrid.”

The big centre-half then came to Trippier’s side sent him a three-word message via his personal Instagram account, saying: “Well played mate.”

OPINION

Although Maguire didn’t feature in the Champions League this season himself with Leicester, it is clear to see that the 26-year old can still show his appreciation for his fellow international teammates who are competing in the competition, regardless of which team they are playing for. It will be a hard pill for the Spurs fans and players alike to swallow, but they should take the positives from the game, and Trippier himself should acknowledge the compliment given to him from his fellow England teammate, after putting on a solid performance on the biggest European stage. It will be hard to come back from the heartbreak of losing a Champions League final, however assuming Trippier stays with the north London club over the summer window, which is looking more likely after his start in the Champions League final, then he and the rest of the squad will have to take a leaf out of Liverpool’s book and come back stronger next season, in the Premier League and in Europe.
