Jurgen Klopp has praised the achievements of both Mauricio Pochettino and Tottenham this season, despite them winning no silverware.

The German also expressed his sympathy and support to the Argentinian boss after admitting he knows exactly what Pochettino will be feeling like after missing out in a major final.

Liverpool won 2-0 in Madrid on Saturday to claim their sixth Champions League trophy, after goals from Mo Salah and Divock Origi launched celebrations in to the night.

Klopp said in his post-match press conference: “I know how Tottenham feel at this moment better than anyone else in the world. They played well and have had a sensational season. They should be very proud of what they’ve done this season.”

The defeat on Saturday was in Tottenham’s first ever Champions League final and it hit many of the squad hard. They managed well to recover from the early penalty setback and had the chances to change the end result, but ultimately did not take them.

OPINION

If  anyone knows what it is like to get to a final and fail then it is Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp. The German had lost his previous six competition finals before Saturday, including two Champions League finals. Mauricio Pochettino will be hurting after this result, no doubt, but he must keep his head up and realise just what an achievement it actually was to reach that far. To knock teams out such as Borussia Dortmund and Manchester City, after not bringing in a single player in their previous two transfer windows, just highlights how good a job Pochettino has done. The Spurs players gave their all which wasn’t enough in the end, but you could see the devastation on their faces. They will need to learn to transform that negativity in to motivation for the upcoming seasons and use this experience as a milestone to look up to and one they wish to beat. Should Pochettino be backed in the window, who knows just how far Spurs could go – one thing is for sure, Pochettino and his players did everyone involved at the proud and deserves a big transfer push and proving just how good he is for the club.
