Real Madrid may not move fast enough to land Tottenham midfielder Christian Eriksen this summer, according to Football.London journalist Alasdair Gold.

The Dane has been constantly linked with a move to the Spanish giants in recent times, and made his most blatant hint yet over the prospect of him leaving Spurs this summer yesterday, as reported by Marca.

But Gold believes there could be issues with any move to the Spanish capital.

Speaking on Twitter, referencing Eden Hazard’s proposed £88 million move to Real, as reported by the Telegraph, he said: “That has a knock on with Eriksen.

“That takes their [Real’s] spending up to almost £200 million or so and they really really need to sell players to be in accordance with Financial Fair Play.

“If they’re going for Eriksen it’s not going to be anytime soon, and that doesn’t really suit Tottenham cause I think they want to get moving.

“Real Madrid might not be the club to facilitate that so we may be looking at someone like Juventus or PSG.”

OPINION

The assumption has been for some time now that if Christian Eriksen was going to leave Tottenham this summer, he would be going straight to Real Madrid, but Gold raises a very valid point here. Spurs need to money sooner rather than later. If the Dane is keen to leave and cannot be dissuaded, then getting rid of him as soon as possible is massively beneficial to Daniel Levy and Mauricio Pochettino. They have targets of their own to acquire, and their job would be made a whole lot easier if they had an extra however many millions in the bank. At the end of the day, Madrid will be able to afford him, but only if they start shipping out players pronto. As far as Spurs as concerned, they have no loyalties to a team trying to poach one of their best players, so why stand on ceremony? If he’s going, let him go, but make sure it is to the club that stumps up the most money the soonest.
