Davies, 26, was a mainstay in the first team squad last season, playing 40 times across all competitions as he battled it out with Danny Rose to be chosen by manager Mauricio Pochettino.
Opinion
Injuries have started to creep into Davies’ game and so you can expect that this operation has taken place to try and make sure it does not become a recurring problem. He was not really at his best despite playing so much last season and there might well have been problems he was suffering from which impacted his performances. On his day he has proven to be a talented full back with the ability to make a difference at both ends of the pitch but there was definitely something lacking in his game. Pochettino will be hoping this operation helps him get back to his best and having it early on in the summer means that he can focus on recovering over the next couple of weeks before returning to training alongside his teammates. With speculation over Danny Rose’s future, Davies could well find himself as the first choice next season and so he better make sure this surgery does not prevent him from being available come the start of August. Of course, football can be a cruel game and he will need to manage his recovery carefully.
