Premier League new boys Sheffield United are keen to sign Everton midfielder Kieran Dowell on loan, according to The Sun.

The national newspaper’s print edition (Sunday June 2nd, page 59) claims that Chris Wilder is keen on having the 21-year-old attacking midfielder at the Blades for another season despite him not featuring regularly when on loan from the Toffees in his 2018/19 campaign.

The Sun report that Sheffield United are currently plotting their assault on the Premier League after winning promotion from the Championship.

Good move for Everton?

It’s a mixed bag and it all depends on how highly Marco Silva rates Dowell.

If Sheffield United borrowed the 21-year-old and played him in England’s top-flight, then it would give useful experience.

However they only played him 17 times when they were in the Championship, so why would they opt to use him regularly in the Premier League?

So with that in mind, it wouldn’t be a shock if Dowell was stuck on the Blades’ bench if he joined them, so wouldn’t another loan move potentially be pointless?

If the midfielder is good enough to sit on a Premier League bench, why wouldn’t Everton just have him do that at Goodison Park?

Likely to happen?

There’s definitely a chance.

Dowell knows Sheffield United very well from his temporary spell with them last season and the club clearly had an easy time dealing with the Toffees.

However until an official offer is made for his services, it’s hard to say for certain that Dowell is on the move.

Also Dowell may impress Silva enough in pre-season enough to break into his first-team plans.
