Nottingham Forest are interested in a move re-sign Newcastle midfielder Jack Colback this summer, according to the Nottingham Post.

The outlet report that Colback, who spent last season on loan in the Championship with Nottingham Forest becoming a key performer for Forest, making 38 appearances in the English second tier, is interesting Martin O’Neill again this summer.

It is also believed that Colback will not be in Rafa Benitez’s first team plans next term, and will likely to be training with the club’s under-23 side when he returns to Newcastle for pre-season training, with Benitez’s uncertain future thought to be holding up any potential move away for the 29-year-old.

OPINION

Colback’s future appears to be very likely to be away from St James’ Park and the midfielder will be hoping to secure a move this summer. The 29-year-old has fallen way down the pecking order at Newcastle, with Benitez not thought to have the midfielder in his long terms plans, should he remain at the club this summer. Colback was an impressive performer for Nottingham Forest in the Championship last term, and a move back to the club might be the best option for him to continue to re-build his career away from St James’ Park. However, with Newcastle also likely to lose Isaac Hayden this summer, having already released Mohamed Diame, Benitez’s side might need to wait until they have brought in some midfield cover before allowing Colback to leave. Having said that if the 29-year-old is not in the club’s plans it might be best to swiftly arrange a transfer and allow both parties to move forward.
