Newcastle United have offered Chelsea midfielder Kyle Scott the opportunity to move to the north east with his contract at Stamford Bridge coming to an end this summer, according to the Sun.

The newspaper claim on their website that the 21-year-old is set to leave the Blues on a free transfer at the end of this month after just one first team appearance, coming in an FA Cup clash against Hull City, but that Newcastle are to pounce on his availability.

It is stated the promising talent is keen on moving to St James’ Park and that Newcastle have offered him the chance to prove his worth on Tyneside.

Good move for Newcastle?

There are some players out there at 21-years-old who are taking their respective leagues by storm and so this is hardly going to get pulses racing among the Newcastle fanbase.

To have made just one senior appearance for Chelsea is hardly impressive, although like so many other youngsters at Stamford Bridge, he has some loan experience under his belt.

Still, 14 appearances in the Dutch second tier is nothing to write home about and this is definitely a gamble for the Magpies, who need proven top flight talent if they are going to move up the table.

There are always late bloomers but Scott is at the stage of his career where he should be playing on a regular basis and you have to question whether he is going to find the game time he wants at St James’ Park.

Likely to happen?

Newcastle do love a freebie – Sung-yeung Ki the first arrival of last summer – and so it would not come as a surprise to anyone to see the Magpies revisit the out-of-contract aisle of the transfer market this year.

Scott has obviously done enough to convince the scouts of his ability and he could prove to be a low risk, high reward capture if he can take his game to the next level over the next 12 months.
