OPINION
With the ongoing takeover talks taking over at Newcastle, the future of Rafael Benitez has seemed to go under-the-radar slightly. The Spaniard’s deal runs out at the end of June and with no new contract agreed to as of yet, the list of different managers linked with the role seems to grow every day. It was revealed on Sunday, by The Mirror, that Jose Mourinho was ready for talks in regards to taking over at St James’ Park and a deal could be finalised should the takeover be completed by the BZG group. Many Newcastle fans reacted to the news with dismay on Twitter, with most not happy with the news, claiming that they would much rather see current manager Benitez on the touchline come the start of next season. One Magpies’ fan reacted by saying: “Why replace a manager with an inferior one?” Another fan was confused by the appointment after it was revealed Mourinho had never won a game at St James’ Park during his time in the Premier League, “Jose Mourinho would be an awful appointment for NUFC considering he doesn’t know how to win a Premier League game at St James’ Park”.
