Liverpool are homing in on a new deal for midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, according to Sky Sports journalist Kaveh Solhekol.

He made the claim on his personal Twitter account on Tuesday afternoon. The new deal would be a one-year extension to his current contract and would see him committed to Anfield until 2023.

Oxlade-Chamberlain made his comeback from serious injury towards the end of the season and is on a reported £120k-a-week on his current deal.

Liverpool fans will be very happy to see this. After a stuttering start to his Liverpool career, Oxlade-Chamberlain was finally finding his feet when he suffered cruciate ligament damage in the game against West Brom at the tail-end of the 17/18 season. That kept him out of pretty much the whole of last season but the 25-year-old hit the pitch from the bench for two league games towards the end of a brilliant campaign for the Reds. With a full pre-season in front of him it’s not an exaggeration to say that he will be like a new signing next season, and this new deal shows Jurgen Klopp’s faith in him. Oxlade-Chamberlain looked sharp off the bench in his two games back, almost scoring straight away in the game against Huddersfield. Liverpool and England will be very happy to see him back to full fitness after a significant setback to his career. He never hit the heights with Arsenal but he’ll be hoping that he can push Liverpool towards their first Premier League title next season.
