Many Aston Villa fans were dismayed over their club reportedly pursuing the services of Ashley Williams. Football Insider reported on Friday that the Villans were ready to offer the 34-year-old a contract after Everton confirmed they were releasing him once his current deal expires at the end of June. While Football Insider’s report stated that the Villans would be offering a deal that would see him earn less money than what he was getting at Goodison Park, it wasn’t enough to get Villa fans on board about him potentially joining. One Villans fan claimed the experienced centre-back was drastically out of shape, while another openly said they despaired at the thought of the defender arriving. Williams played 33 times for Stoke City in his 2018/19 campaign while on loan with them, and the fact he struggled to shine in the Championship shows why the Villans should steer clear. The centre-back is slow and is no longer good enough for the Premier League, even if he is able to continue adding to his 85 caps for Wales, so the Villans would be foolish to snap him up.
