Tottenham have confirmed that defender Connor Ogilvie has left the club.

Spurs announced via their official website on Friday that Ogilvie, 23, has been released after seven years of being on the books at the North London club.

The left-back failed to make a single senior appearance for Tottenham during his time there but has spent the last two seasons on loan at Gillingham where he has played regularly in League One.

OPINION

Ogilvie was always going to struggle to earn a new deal at Tottenham so it is not at all a shock to see him leave the Premier League club and become available on a free transfer. He has done well in the last couple of seasons at Gillingham, earning 79 appearances across all competitions. The former England Under-17 international was once a highly-rated prospect and after doing well at Gillingham, he should be able to find himself a new club fairly soon. It would not be a shock to see the Gills sign Ogilvie permanently because they have got good use out of him in the last two years and it would just make a lot of sense for them to fill the void he left at left-back by re-signing him again. If that doesn’t happen then there will surely be other League One teams that would be willing to take on the former Spurs academy defender, who did well to remain on the books of the London club up until his 23rd birthday.
