Sky Sports pundit Danny Mills has claimed that wantaway Tottenham star Christian Eriksen could have already agreed to join Real Madrid this summer.

Eriksen, 27, has told Danish newspaper Ekstra Bladet that he will look for a new a challenge this summer after six years in North London and Real Madrid have been widely-linked with a move for the Denmark international.

Mills believes that Eriksen would not have come out to discuss his future so blatantly if he hadn’t already struck a deal to leave Spurs.

However the former England international still believes that Real Madrid have some work to do to agree on a transfer fee with Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy, who is known to be one of the toughest negotiators in world football.

“He’s already agreed terms with Real Madrid, that’s how it appears to me,” Mills told Football Insider. “Players only tend to go public with their intention to leave when there is an offer or two on the table.

“Christian Eriksen will know who is knocking on the door, and he will certainly know who are the clubs that are interested. He has specifically named Real Madrid, which suggests he has an agreement with the club, but a fee needs to be agreed.

“That will not be easy, as Daniel Levy will want top dollar for a player who has had a successful season and whose stock is incredibly high at the moment.”

OPINION

Eriksen’s time at Tottenham appears to be up and it would be a massive shock if he was still playing for the Premier League club next season based on his quotes in the Danish press. It’s hard to see him moving to anyone but Real Madrid, so Mills is probably correct to suggest that a move to the Bernabeu is on it’s way to being completed. Florentino Perez will have his work cut out to strike a deal with Levy though. Spurs will not want to see Eriksen leave on a free transfer next year when his contract expires so Levy is going to find his back up against the wall in these negotiations with Madrid. There should be some kind of agreement soon though because Tottenham will need that money to start finding a replacement. Giovani Lo Celso is one of the players that has been linked with Spurs as they aim to fill a creative void that would be left by Eriksen. He is a good player but not the same kind of midfielder that Spurs would be losing in the Dane.
