Everton have made contact with Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain over a potential move for Belgian full back Thomas Meunier, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper claim on their website that the Toffees have been in touch with the French giants to ask about the 27-year-old, who was a mainstay for PSG before injury struck him down in the latter stages of the 2018/19 campaign.

A 36-cap international for Belgium, Everton’s pursuit of Meunier is said to come with Jonjoe Kenny having failed to yet impress Marco Silva enough to hand him a regular role in the first team, a loan spell on the cards for the homegrown talent.

Good move for Everton?

Meunier was one rated as one of the best promising full backs that European football had to offer, hence why he ended up at big spenders PSG.

He is still playing regular football for both club and country and so has obviously not lost his touch, even if he has gone off the radar a little bit.

Still, he is a quality full back and Seamus Coleman would have some real competition to try and keep his place among the starting XI – just as Lucas Digne’s arrival caused long serving ace Leighton Baines to lost his place, you imagine Meunier would not go to Goodison to sit on the bench.

At the end this would be a cracking signing for the Toffees, who would demonstrate real ambition by snapping him up.

Likely to happen?

All we know at the moment is that they called PSG over his availability.

For all we know, the French heavyweights might have laughed at them and hung up the phone.

Meunier was a regular in the line up and would likely cost a hefty sum to prise him away from the French capital. An ambitious enquiry, that is for sure – a realistic one? We will have to wait and see.
