Josh Magennis’ agent has approached Rangers about a potential summer switch to Ibrox, according to Rock Sport Radio host Bill Young.

The reliable journalist claimed via his personal Twitter account on Wednesday that while the Bolton forward’s representative has touted his client to the Gers, the Scottish Premiership side is yet to respond.

The Belfast Telegraph reported on Tuesday that Rangers were in talks to sign Magennis, 28, this summer but the Daily Record has since rubbished that report, saying that the Light Blues are not interested in the Northern Ireland international.

OPINION

It is definitely a good job that Rangers are not signing Magennis this summer because there is no way that he is good enough for most teams in the Scottish Premiership, let alone Steven Gerrard’s side. Magennis scored just six goals in 45 appearances last season as Bolton were relegated to England’s third-tier and him not scoring many goals has been a trend throughout a career that has seen him evolve from a goalkeeper, into a right-back and into a striker. Magennis is a striker who doesn’t score goals and Rangers simply cannot afford to have passengers in their squad next season, which is what the 6ft 2 [transfermarkt] ex-Aberdeen player would be. With Alfredo Morelos potentially leaving, the Gers will have their work cut out to find a replacement but luckily the Colombian should fetch a decent enough transfer fee to be able to buy someone who will put this Magennis link to shame.
