Leeds United have made an “ambitious approach” to sign Wolves forward Helder Costa on loan, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.

The newspaper claims that Marcelo Bielsa wants to increase the number of wide players that are available to him next season and the Whites are now attempting to sign Costa, 25, on a temporary basis.

The one-time Portugal international made 30 appearances in all competitions for Wolves last season but played a major role in helping them to the Premier League in 2017/18 when he scored five goals and supplied six assists in 36 Championship outings.

Good move for Leeds?

Costa would be a terrific signing for Leeds, especially because Bielsa wants to add to his wide options this summer and the Portuguese ace is a proven performer in the Championship.

He made 71 appearances for Wolves in the second-tier, scoring 15 goals and supplying 14 assists in the process and there’s no doubt that he would be an upgrade on some of the players Bielsa had last season.

It helps that Costa, earning £32,500-a-week [Spotrac] at Wolves, is also able to play on both sides of the attack.

The former Benfica and Monaco player should be a welcome addition at Elland Road, even if it would only be a loan deal.

Likely to happen?

Would Costa be willing to drop back down to the Championship?

Although his role in Nuno Espirito Santo’s side last season was not as important as it had been in the second-tier, the wide-forward still played regularly and might not fancy a move away from billionaire-owned [Business Live] Wolves unless it was to join another Premier League club.

Leeds’ interest is not a surprise, but does it go both ways?
