Manuel Lanzini is set to land himself a new long-term contract with West Ham amid interest from Turkish giants Fenerbahce, according to the Mirror.

The newspaper claims that Lanzini, 26, is in line to receive a new five-year deal at the London Stadium with his current £70,000-a-week [Spotrac] agreement set to expire next year.

It is understood that Fenerbahce want to sign the Argentina international to replace Mathieu Valbuena, who has recently left Istanbul to join Olympiakos on a free transfer.

However West Ham’s move to strike a new deal with Lanzini is likely to stop Fenerbahce in their tracks as they aim to tie him down until 2024.

OPINION

Lanzini did not play much last season due to a serious cruciate ligament injury in his knee. The Argentine managed just 10 Premier League appearances for the Hammers, but it is clear that he is someone who needs to be kept on by Manuel Pellegrini if he wants to build on the club’s 10th-placed finish in 2018/19. Lanzini is one of the best attacking midfielders outside of the top-six and it would be a massive shame if the Irons were to lose him this summer. Thankfully the club has done the right thing and moved to strike a new long-term deal. Lanzini would probably turn Fenerbahce down anyway if they came calling. He is way better than a club like that and even though he has recently had a long-term injury, he hasn’t lost the quality he showcased earlier in his career at the London Stadium, which led to links to Liverpool.
