Everton full-back Jonjo Kenny is expected to complete a loan move to Bundesliga side Schalke this week, according to the Daily Mail.

The 22-year-old had been a target for fellow Premier League sides Burnley and Crystal Palace, but it is understood that the defender will move to the continent to link up with former Huddersfield Town manager David Wagner in Germany.

It is believed that Wagner is willing to offer Kenny the opportunity to have regular first team football, with the player making just 12 senior appearances for the Toffees this season.

Good move for Everton?

Yes, absolutely. Kenny is a player who has bobbed around on the periphery of the first team for some time now, and who could easily kick on and become a key player for the Blues if he can just take that last step towards establishing some kind of consistency. The best way that he is going to do that is to play regular football, and going to Schalke would be a fantastic opportunity. Learning the German game will be a fantastic way for the defender to develop his game, and you would hope that he can become a more well-rounded, and therefore better, asset for the Toffees.

Likely to happen?

You’d be surprised if it didn’t at this stage. This one looks pretty nailed on, and if it isn’t Schalke, then you imagine Kenny will probably need up going somewhere else this summer. As it is though, a move to Germany seems like a realistic option for the 22-year-old, and providing he is also receptive to the move, this one should definitely be a goer.
