Caleb Ekuban is on the verge of leaving Leeds United to join Trabzonspor on a permanent deal, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.

The newspaper claims that there could be an announcement to confirm the 25-year-old’s exit in the next few days as Leeds prepare to offload some of their unneeded players.

Ekuban has spent the season on loan with Trabzonspor in Turkey and it is understood they have taken up the option to sign the Ghanaian permanently this summer after being impressed by his performances.

Good move for Leeds?

Ekuban has been a flop for the Whites and getting him off the wagebill, and making some money off him, is a good piece of business by director of football Victor Orta.

During Ekuban’s only full season at Elland Road he scored just two goals in total 21 appearances – a poor tally for a striker.

However the 6ft [transfermarkt] forward has done better at Trabzonspor, netting eight goals and supplying three assists in 36 appearances, which suggests that this deal will benefit all parties that are concerned.

Likely to happen?

Phil Hay’s report suggests that the deal is very close, and given how accurate his reporting on Leeds is, fans should expect this deal to be wrapped up in the coming says.

It was a good move by Orta and Marcelo Bielsa to loan out Ekuban last summer with the view to him leaving permanently.

Hopefully he can continue to kick on at Trabzonspor and make a name for himself in Turkish football.
