A move to the Premier League may work out better for Ryan Kent than joining Leeds United, according to Sun journalist Alan Nixon.

Kent has recently returned to Liverpool’s Under-23s set up after impressing in a loan spell with Rangers, where the 22-year-old asserted himself as a key part of Steven Gerrard’s team by making 43 appearances.

In a previous tweet from Nixon, the journalist said that Leeds director of football Victor Orta has been an admirer of Kent for the last three years.

Tweeting on Sunday, however, Nixon said that while a move to Leeds would be possible, a move to the top flight could be better for Kent.

OPINION

After a stellar season at Rangers, Kent is in the position now where there will be no shortage of demand for his services. It is highly unlikely that Liverpool will want to keep him around at Anfield, meaning that the winger has the choice of any club who would want him. The thing is, Kent would be a valuable asset anywhere. If he was to go to Leeds, he could become a key man and could take the Whites one step closer to Premier League promotion. Marcelo Bielsa’s side are in need of a striker that will fire them to the Championship’s top two spots, and while Kent is not that kind of player exactly, he certainly has goals in him that he could add to the side. Having said that, there is every reason to suggest that Kent could also fit in in the top flight from next season. He has shown at Rangers that he has the quality to impress and perform, so where the player will end up come the start of August will be very interesting to see.
