Leeds goalkeeper coach Marcos Abad signed a new contract on Tuesday amid interest from Spanish club Elche, according to Onda Cero.

Abad spent seven years at Elche before moving to Middlesbrough and then Leeds with Victor Orta, and renewed his contract following the confirmation that Marcelo Bielsa was staying for another year.

Elche need a new goalkeeper coach after parting ways with Luis Miguel Quirant.

OPINION

This is good news for Leeds who are attracting attention in all areas at the moment. Multiple parties are interested in investing into the club, Cultural Leonesa have made an approach for Carlos Corberan and now this. Abad staying is a boost for the club who have issues in goal. Kiko Casilla came in for severe criticism following his move from Real Madrid in January and there is speculation about his future. Bailey Peacock-Farrell has said he either wants to play or go and it’s an area that needs sorting before the start of pre-season proper. Getting Casilla off the books might not be a bad thing. Evidence so far suggests he doesn’t offer much more than Peacock-Farrell and he’s on wages said to be around £30k-a-week. Losing him would free Leeds up to bring in a marquee signing from the Premier League on loan. With money tight, this could be the best move for Leeds.
