Paris St Germain owner Nasser Al-Khelaifi is expected to take over Leeds United sooner rather than later, according to French journalist Julien Laurens.

The Qatar Sports Investment president reportedly met with Leeds chairman Andrea Radrizzani in Doha earlier in the week to discuss potential investment in the Whites.

Speaking on talkSPORT (Jim White, June 5th), Laurens said: “The owners of PSG, the Qatar Royal Family, are very keen on buying Leeds. I would be very surprised if that takeover doesn’t actually happen. I think it will happen sooner rather than later.”

L’Equipe first reported Al-Khelaifi’s interest in Leeds in early June, after the PSG president wanted to branch out into English football with the Yorkshire club high on his list for potential investment.

Andrea Radrizzani has been in charge of Leeds since buying the club in 2017 after an initial investment in the previous year.

OPINION

This news will no doubt get Leeds fans excited for the upcoming season. In all reality, the Whites’ fans must take a step back and let this piece of news develop in its own time. Andrea Radrizzani has done an excellent job since arriving in Yorkshire and his efforts must be truly appreciated. The Italian came to Elland Road at a time when many things were looking uncertain and relegation seemed a more realistic outcome than promotion. Bringing in fresh faces and the introduction of Marcelo Bielsa proved masterstrokes and add to that the constant improvement of Thorp Arch and the decision to buy back Elland Road – Radrizzani has transformed the club completely. Although he may want another shot at taking Leeds back to the Premier League, missing out on promotion does prove costly with the windfall from that significant for many years. Investment is key to getting out of the Championship and Nasser Al-Khelaifi could hold the key to that door, should Radrizzani want the extra funds to mount an even more serious challenge this season.
