Leeds United are unlikely to make a move for Queens Park Rangers midfielder Luke Freeman despite reports linking him with a switch to Elland Road, according to journalist Phil Hay.

The Yorkshire Evening Post writer, on his personal Twitter account, looked to end any potential rumours linking the English playmaker to the club when responding to a fan, by simply writing: “Don’t see that one happening”.

Leeds were reported by London Football News on Tuesday to be interested in Freeman after the 27-year-old impressed Marcelo Bielsa in Leeds’ 1-0 defeat at Loftus Road last season.

The former England youth international enjoyed a great season at QPR this season, scoring eight and assisting six goals in his 43 Championship appearances.

The Whites were first linked to the playmaker in March by talkSPORT, who claimed Leeds would launch a bid should they earn promotion.

OPINION

This will no doubt disappoint all involved at Leeds, especially their fans. There was a certain sense of excitement when the rumour was first started after Luke Freeman was world class against Leeds in their last fixture – scoring the winner in a 1-0 win. Freeman controlled his Queens Park Rangers side that night and took the game by the scruff of the neck and punished Marcelo Bielsa’s side in the middle of the park. Bielsa would have no doubt been thoroughly impressed by that game, and a reported hunt for his signature came as no surprise. Having said that, the talkSPORT report did claim that an offer would happen should Leeds earn promotion and any possible move could have been shut down the moment Leeds lost in their play-off semi-final to Derby in May. Leeds are now reportedly looking to target the Premier League loan market this summer, so a move for Freeman could rely on any player sales.
