Cultural Leonesa have made an approach to appoint Leeds United’s Under-23s boss Carlos Corberan their new manager, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.

The newspaper claim that Leeds are hoping that Corberan will turn down the offer to leave the club as they rate him so highly after his success with the Under-23’s this season.

The Spaniard Corberan has maintained two separate roles at the club since Marcelo Bielsa’s arrival, both as U23’s manager and first team coach

The Yorkshire Evening Post revealed that a source close to the club admitted that Corberan is “highly regarded and has a growing reputation across the industry. All concerned would like to see Carlos stay.”

OPINION

This would be a huge loss for all involved at Leeds. Carlos Corberan has helped transform the club in so many different ways since his arrival. The improvement at academy level has been nothing short of incredible and was topped off with the under-23’s winning the Professional Development League this season. His ability as a first team coach was noticed when he was a regular feature on the touchline with Marcelo Bielsa throughout the Championship campaign with the senior squad. Corberan has been tipped as a man who could take over from Bielsa, should he ever leave and this would certainly damage his chances should he decide to move. Having said that, a chance to make a step up and prove his worth as a senior manager is a chance that has grabbed the Spanish coaches’ attention and no one could blame him should he decide to take the leap into management.
