Tottenham are set to have a meeting with the Bruno Fernandes’ agent Miguel Pinho after he jetted into London for talks, according to Correio da Manhã.

The Portuguese newspaper claims that Spurs are ready to blow their Premier League rivals out of the water in the hunt to sign the Sporting CP midfielder, with Manchester City and Manchester United both bidding for the 24-year-old.

It is understood that City’s £48.9million offer for Fernandes has been rejected while United have tabled £62.3million plus add-ons.

However Correio da Manhã says that Spurs are now “willing to overcome the proposals” that have already been made for the Portugal international.

Good move for Tottenham?

Fernandes was one of the most in-form midfielders in Europe last season, scoring 32 goals and supplying 18 assists in 53 appearances across all competitions for Sporting CP.

The Portugal international plays in an attacking midfield position and could be a very good replacement for Christian Eriksen, who is widely expected to leave North London this summer with Real Madrid reportedly interested.

It would cost Tottenham a lot to sign Fernandes, who has an £88.5million release clause in his contract, according to A Bola.

However if Daniel Levy and Mauricio Pochettino are serious about improving this team then that is the sort of money that they need to be splashing out on players and most, if not all of, that money will be made up by selling Eriksen anyway.

Likely to happen?

At the moment it is hard to tell whether or not Spurs will be going in big for players like Fernandes.

They will more than likely sell players first, or at least get close to selling players, before deciding to sign replacements, especially if they’re expensive.

Tottenham have to spend big this summer on improving the squad and Fernandes is a very good player, so he is someone who Spurs could make a huge effort to snap up.
