Aston Villa are eyeing up a swoop to sign Swansea forward Andrew Ayew this summer, according to Football Ghana.

The Ghanaian news outlet claims that the Swans are desperate to cash in on the 29-year-old before the start of next season due to his high wages and are demanding £5million for his signature.

It is understood that Dean Smith has set his sights on Ayew as a potential addition to his squad in the transfer window, but he faces competition from UAE champions Al Sharjah.

Good move for Aston Villa?

In a word, no.

Ayew has spent the season on loan with Fenerbahce but failed to have much of an impact as he scored just five goals in 38 appearances across all competitions, of which only 28 were in the starting line-up.

The Ghana international does have experience in the Premier League from his first stint at Swansea and a spell at West Ham, but the forward simply is not good enough for top-flight football in England anymore and Villa should avoid him at all costs this summer.

Even though Swansea’s valuation of £5million is quite low for an experienced international who is 29-years-old, the Ghanaian is likely to demand high wages as he is said to be on a big deal at the Liberty Stadium.

Likely to happen?

Ayew is Swansea’s version of Ross McCormack, albeit a watered down version of the Scot, who has been released by Aston Villa this week.

He is on high wages and contributing nothing to the Welsh club.

Villa should be avoiding players like that, especially after what they have been through with McCormack and Micah Richards.

It would be the shock of the summer if any Premier League side signs Ayew this summer.
