West Brom are considering moving for Lincoln City boss Danny Cowley as their search for a manager continues, according to the Express & Star.

Cowley has done a fine job during his time with League Two champions Lincoln, but he is not the man to take West Brom back up to the top-flight.

The 40-year-old has led Lincoln from the conference and they will play their football in League One next term after Lincoln won the League Two title by six points.

Cowley took charge of Lincoln in 2016 and reached the Fa Cup quarter-final during the same year – his work has been impressive.

With that being said, he would have to perform with more expectation on his shoulders at West Brom – something he wouldn’t be capable of dealing with at this stage.

The Lincoln boss has no managerial experience in higher divisions and despite his success with Lincoln, he is too much of a risk.

West Brom are in need of an experienced manager to implement an effective style of play that is tried and tested at Championship level. Chris Hughton is reportedly another candidate for the hot-seat and this is a much better option given his track record and experience at a higher level.

The next West Brom manager will be expected to win promotion next season and this level of pressure is nothing like what Cowley has coming up against before. An established operator is required to achieve West Brom’s upcoming goal.

Cowley will need to achieve more than what he has previously to warrant a job of this size – now is not the time for him to take this job.
