Tottenham are reportedly interested in signing Newcastle United ace Isaac Hayden in the summer transfer window, and striking a deal for the English centre-midfielder could be a blinder of a move by the North London club.

According to the Newcastle Chronicle, West Ham and Crystal Palace have also set their sights on the 24-year-old, who wants to quit St James’ Park in the summer due to family reasons.

It is understood that Hayden could fetch Newcastle anywhere between £15million and £20million after an impressive run of form in the second-half of this season as Rafa Benitez’s men avoided relegation from the Premier League.

Hayden has shown a massive improvement to his game and with Mauricio Pochettino in need of new central midfielders, as well as adding homegrown players to the squad, the former Arsenal midfielder may be just the signing that Spurs need.

He made 28 appearances in all competitions for Newcastle this season, scoring one goal and supplying four assists in the process.

The Chelmsford-born ace is a midfielder who can do a bit of everything and occupy many different roles in Pochettino’s side if he does manage to sign him up in the summer.

Hayden is a strong passer of the ball but is also good off the ball and is able to win back possession quite a lot.

Tottenham’s midfield is not weak in terms of the rest of the Premier League but their deeper-lying positions, which Hayden would more than likely play in, are not exactly on par with the whole of the squad.

Moussa Sissoko has been a bit of an exception to that this term though and he could have easily won Spurs’ player of the season award.

However the France international cannot do it all himself and Hayden would be the perfect back-up, or even partner, for Sissoko in the heart of Pochettino’s midfield.

It may cost a lot to sign Hayden due to the fact that he is English, he is still relatively young and he has been in good form.

He just ticks so many boxes for Tottenham though and signing the Magpies star up in the summer could be an absolute masterstroke of a move.
