According to Lisbon publication, A Bola, Benfica are weighing up a move for Liverpool left-back Alberto Moreno.

Moreno, who joined Liverpool from Sevilla in 2014, is out of contract in the summer and will not be offered a new deal.

With Benfica defender Alex Grimaldo attracting interest from clubs across Europe, the Portuguese giants are in the hunt for a new left-back. The Daily Mail are claiming that Moreno will not be short of offers however, and Barcelona are said to be showing an interest in his services.

The Spaniard has only featured four times for the Reds this campaign. Andy Robertson’s performances have subsequently limited Moreno’s opportunities and the latter could well move abroad in the hope of reigniting his career.

Good move for Liverpool?

Liverpool have strong defensive options in their ranks. James Milner has previously filled in at left-back, Andy Robertson is in the form of his life and Trent Alexander-Arnold can also play in that position. The departure will be a good move for both Moreno and Liverpool, the Spaniard will have the chance to play regular football again and Liverpool will have cut the wage bill. Jurgen Klopp has more than enough defensive ammunition to allow Moreno to move on.

TIF Rating: 7/10.

Likely to happen?

Alex Grimaldo is attracting interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs and given that, the chances of him departing look increasingly likely. With that in mind, Alberto Moreno will be up for grabs and Benfica will be able to offer him the game time he desperately needs. The move makes sense for both Benfica, Liverpool and Moreno himself, this deal looks a logical one. Complications shouldn’t come into play here, Moreno is free to leave and make his own decisions without Liverpool’s influence.
