Celtic have made a move to try and sign Iranian international defender Milad Mohammadi after tracking the 25-cap star over the last 12 months, according to Football Insider.

The reputable football news outlet claim that the Hoops have been tracking the 25-year-old over the last two transfer windows and that they have finally registered their interest with the Akmat Grozny man ahead of his contract coming to an end this summer.

It is stated that English sides Fulham and Bristol City are both keen on snapping up Mohammadi for a free but that it is Celtic who have made the first move to try and get the versatile left sided star, who can also play as a winger, to Parkhead.

Good move for Celtic?

You do not get 25 caps for your country if you are not a talented footballer, regardless of which international team that might be.

That being said, Iran are ranked 21st in the world by FIFA, sitting above the likes of the USA and Senegal and just behind traditional heavyweights Italy and the Netherlands in 17th and 16th respectively.

The Russian Premier League is hardly the greatest test of a footballer’s capabilities but he obviously has something about him if English Championship sides are looking at his capture, but Celtic are looking for a different calibre of player.

They want to be challenging for regular Champions League football and simply put Mohammadi does not look like the most inspiring of signing.

Likely to happen?

It is said that Mohammadi is keen on a move to the UK and if a giant club like Celtic are willing to offer him a deal, he could very well be tempted.

This could well be the Hoops looking to trump their rivals to his capture and if that is the case then you would have to bet on the Bhoys coming out on top.

Of course nothing is done until pen hits the paper, but he could well be Celtic’s first signing of the summer.
