West Brom starlet Jamie Soule has caught the attention of German giants Borussia Dortmund with the Bundesliga outfit scouting the youngster in person, according to the Sun.

The newspaper claim on their website that the 18-year-old forward has emerged on Dortmund’s radar after his 14 goals in 26 appearances across the under-18 and the under-23 sides at the Hawthorns and that they watched him score again in the under-18 cup semi final against Manchester City.

It is stated that the Germans are now looking at snapping him up this summer in hopes of unearthing another Jadon Sancho, who has gone from strength to strength in the Bundesliga.

Opinion

This is not the news that West Brom fans, or the management, were hoping for. Soule looks to be one of the best young talents the club have on their books right now and there would surely have been thoughts of giving him some first team action in the not-too-distant future after his fine goal scoring record for the youth teams. However, how can the Baggies be expected to compete if Dortmund come knocking at their door? The Germans are known for their impressive record of developing youngsters into first team talents and Soule need only look at how much Sancho has progressed – the youngster breaking into the senior England side – to realise what he could potentially achieve by heading to mainland Europe. If West Brom want to keep him on board, they have got to convince him he has a first team future at the Hawthorns and that might mean giving him a new contract and handing him a chance to impress the manager – James Shan or otherwise – in the summer.
