Celtic are reportedly in the hunt to sign former Rangers goalkeeper Liam Kelly from Livingston in the summer transfer window.

According to the Scottish Sun, the 23-year-old could be available for just £50,000 at the end of the season due to a clause in his contract that was agreed when he joined Livi from the Gers last summer.

Other than this season, Kelly has been on the books as a Rangers player for his entire career, but Celtic are now understood to be interested in signing the shot-stopper, who has impressed at Almondvale this term.

If Celtic manage to sign Kelly in the summer than it would be a massive kick in the teeth for Rangers fans, who will no doubt be seething over the fact that a player their club has nurtured and given a career to would swap Ibrox for Parkhead with just a one year gap.

Players rarely play for both of the Old Firm clubs, so if Kelly does it in the summer, it will no doubt be something that will grab headlines and turn a lot of heads in both Govan and the East End.

Rangers’ loss will be Celtic’s gain though because Kelly is a fantastic goalkeeper who has done brilliantly at Livingston this season.

He has made 41 appearances across all competitions, conceded 42 goals and kept 17 clean sheets – with two of those coming against the Bhoys.

It is mightily impressive to see a young goalkeeper do so well for a team that was playing in the Scottish Championship last term and with Craig Gordon falling down the pecking order and Dorus de Vries’ contract expiring in the summer, it would make a lot of sense for Celtic to sign Kelly if he’s available for just £50,000.

Signing the former Rangers goalkeeper is a no-brainer in football terms, and it is nice added bonus for Celtic that it will surely annoy their biggest rivals if a deal is agreed.
