Aston Villa forward Albert Adomah has been told by manager Dean Smith that he will be leaving the club at the end of his contract as the club decide not to extend his stay, according to the Birmingham Mail.

The newspaper claim on their website that the Ghana international, who made 42 appearances for the Villans across all competitions this season as they secured a return to the Premier League via the play-offs, received the call from Smith on Thursday evening (30/05) informing him of the club’s decision, with his current deal coming to an end in June.

Adomah made 125 appearances for Villa during his time at the club.

Opinion

With Villa setting their sights on improving the squad for the Premier League, it should come as no surprise Adomah is on his way. Yes, he is an experienced talent who has proven his worth time and again for the Villans but he is very much suited to the Championship, with a different quality required for the top flight. He would only be a hurdle to new recruits coming in the door this summer due to his wage and so it is better for Smith and the transfer team that they let him go and clear him off the books, giving them room to bring in new players ahead of their Premier League return. He will no doubt be remembered fondly by most of the Villa faithful and while he might not have been the most talented or gifted footballer ever to wear the claret and blue, he was a hard worker who helped the club in their successful promotion campaign.
