West Ham are in hot pursuit of Basaksehir midfielder Irfan Can Kahveci, according to Sport Witness.

The reliable news outlet claims that the Hammers are “exploring the possibility” of signing the 23-year-old Turkey international in the summer transfer window.

Sport Witness’ report claims that they have been told by a source that West Ham have set their sights on signing Kahveci after Turkish show Kirmizi Çizgi reported that the central midfielder is “likely to leave” Basaksehir at the end of the campaign.

Good move for West Ham?

Kahveci has been a mainstay for Basaksehir this term, scoring four goals and supplying five assists in 33 appearances across all competitions.

The midfielder has performed very well for most of the season and his form is one of the reasons why Basaksehir sit top of the Turkish Super Lig table with four games to play.

However his form has dropped in recent weeks, and that is more than likely because he could be leaving the Istanbul club in the summer transfer window.

West Ham would be signing a decent player if they are able to lure Kahveci to the London Stadium over the next few months, but there are definitely better options out there that Manuel Pellegrini could sign.

Kahveci might be a decent squad player, but not someone who would walk into the starting line-up.

Likely to happen?

It sure seems as though Kahveci will be playing for a new club by the time next season starts, but will it be West Ham?

Pellegrini is bound to want a new midfielder or two in the summer because other than Mark Noble and Declan Rice, most players in that position who already play for the Hammers have been letdowns.

It is hard to tell what will happen with Kahveci until the season is over in both England and Turkey.
