Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder has emerged as a new name to join the candidates for the West Brom job, according to Rob Dorsett.

The Sky Sports journalist claimed via his personal Twitter account on Friday that Albion are interested in hiring the Blades boss, who is becoming “increasingly frustrated” with budget limitations and behind-the-scenes rows at Bramall Lane.

Wilder, 51, won promotion to the Premier League with Sheffield United this season, who finished second in the Championship standings, two places above managerless West Brom.

OPINION

Wilder would be a top-class appointment for West Brom, but there is surely no chance that they would be able to lure the 51-year-old to The Hawthorns this summer as he prepares for his first ever campaign in charge in the Premier League. He has done wonders at Sheffield United and while he may be frustrated with certain things, they do not compare to the experience that he is about to get in the top-flight of English football. If he thinks that the budget limitations at Bramall Lane are something to be frustrated about then he will surely be banging his head up against the wall if he has to work with Mark Jenkins at The Hawthorns. He has to be one of the most tight-fisted chief executives in the English game, with a move to sign Dwight Gayle already ruled out due to him earning too much money. Wilder would be a great hire, but West Brom should look elsewhere because it’s a waste of time trying.
