Rangers are considering a bid to sign Oldham defender George Edmundson, who is also wanted by West Brom, according to the Birmingham Mail.

The newspaper claims that the Baggies are set to do battle with the Glasgow giants as they aim to sign the 21-year-old centre-back in the summer transfer window.

It is understood that Rangers are “mulling over a bid” for Edmundson, who is valued at £500,000 and could be on his way out of Oldham in the summer if an acceptable offer is tabled.

Good move for West Brom?

Edmundson has played very well for Oldham in League Two this season and as West Brom might need to add to their defensive options in the summer, the former Fylde loanee could be a good addition at £500,000.

However the 6ft 3 (transfermarkt) colossus has never played above the level of League One and might be quite a risky signing due to this.

Tosin Adarabioyo’s loan ends soon and there is bound to be speculation about Craig Dawson and Ahmed Hegazi’s future at The Hawthorns if the Baggies fail to win promotion this term.

Edmundson might be a decent back-up option but Albion need better than him if they want to replace someone like Hegazi.

Likely to happen?

If Rangers bid for Edmundson then it is hard to see the English defender head to The Hawthorns when a chance to play in the Scottish Premiership for Steven Gerrard is on the cards.

At the moment it does seem as though the Gers’ interest is more advanced than West Brom’s.

Both clubs are yet to have their seasons finish yet though so a lot could change in the coming weeks.
