Tottenham fans should be extremely thrilled to know that Jan Vertonghen is expected to be fit to play against Liverpool in the Champions League final on June 1.

Vertonghen, 32, was pictured wearing a protective boot on his right foot after Spurs’ win against Ajax in the semi-finals of the competition on Wednesday night.

However Sky Sports reports that the Belgium international should be able to play against Liverpool in Madrid at the start of next month, and that is a massive boost for supporters who were no doubt sweating over the defender’s fitness after seeing that image of him using crutches to walk.

While the former Ajax man is expected to miss this weekend’s clash against Everton at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, he should be fine to play against Liverpool, as should Harry Kane, who has been out of action for a few weeks with an ankle injury.

If Mauricio Pochettino has both Vertonghen and Kane available then Tottenham will be in a brilliant position to go out and win the Champions League for the first time in their history.

Vertonghen has played so well for Spurs over the last few years and every time he doesn’t play, they seem like a worse side.

He has missed the North London club’s last two Premier League fixtures and both of them have resulted in a loss.

In fact, four of the last five league games that Vertonghen has missed, Spurs have been beaten.

The Belgian powerhouse is so crucial to Tottenham and with him in their defence, Pochettino’s side has a chance at keeping the likes of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane at bay.

This is a massive boost for Spurs and one that could end up seeing them lift the Champions League trophy.
