Kieran Trippier is “fearing the worst” about his future at Tottenham and could be heading towards a summer exit from the North London club, according to the Mirror.

The newspaper claimed via their live transfer blog on Wednesday morning that the 28-year-old is worried that his future lies elsewhere after missing out on the England squad for the upcoming Nations League semi-finals.

It is understood that Gareth Southgate’s snub could be seen as a possible “final warning” that the right-back has to leave Spurs to revive his international career.

The Mirror adds that Mauricio Pochettino wants to sign a new right-back in the summer and Everton, Napoli and Manchester United are all interested in Trippier.

OPINION

It seems a long time ago since Trippier was running riot for England at the World Cup in Russia and scoring a wonderful free-kick in the semi-final against Croatia. Since then his form has nosedived and Pochettino cannot be blamed for wanting a new right-back after the former Burnley ace failed to meet expectations this term. What hasn’t helped Trippier is that he was the best out of two bad options. Serge Aurier has hardly been any better than Trippier, so that has meant that despite his poor performances, the England international has had to continue playing in most matches. It is a shame to see the £65,000-a-week [Spotrac] ace in this situation because everyone knows that he is a good right-back deep down. Hopefully he can revive his career elsewhere but he faces an uphill task to win back his place in Southgate’s plans after impressive seasons by Kyle Walker and Trent Alexander-Arnold.
