Tottenham full back Kieran Trippier is a doubt for the club’s Premier League clash against Bournemouth after undergoing tests on an injury picked up against Ajax, according to the London Evening Standard.

The newspaper claim on their website that the 28-year-old English international, who has been a mainstay for the Lilywhites all season, underwent assessments on the problem which forced him off against the Dutch giants, the right sided flyer appearing to hold the back of his leg when substituted.

He is joined by fellow defender Jan Vertonghen as a potential absentee, the Belgian’s head injury against Ajax leaving him as doubtful for both the game versus the Cherries as well as the second leg in Amsterdam.

Opinion

Trippier might not have lived up to expectations all this season but there is no doubting that he is the club’s most effective and reliable right back, with Serge Aurier having more ups and downs in terms of his performances than a roller-coaster. With the battle for the Premier League’s top four still very much alive, Mauricio Pochettino has a balancing act to carry out with next week also their Champions League semi final second leg. The games are coming thick and fast for Spurs right now and they will have to try to avoid any and all injuries possible. If Trippier is in any way not 100 per cent, do not expect to see him against Bournemouth. Next week’s trip to Amsterdam will be seen as much more important and so the right back will be rested in order to be fit and firing for that particular clash.
