OPINION
Tottenham have reportedly approached Real Madrid with an enquiry about attacker Marco Asensio. Spanish news outlet AS has reported that the La Liga club has told Spurs that Asensio, 23, is not for sale for anything less than his £618million release clause. That has understandably led to a reaction by some Tottenham fans on Twitter, who either cannot believe the sum of money that Real Madrid want for the Spain international or believe that a huge offer is justified for a player of his quality. Asensio, like most players at the Bernabeu, has not had a great season this time out but it is clear that the 23-year-old is still to reach his full potential and is one of the top attackers in European football. However there is no way that Spurs should consider spending anywhere near his release clause. Daniel Levy is a great negotiator, but he would not even consider buying Asensio after this update. Spurs fans who want the Spanish attacker should probably let go of that hope now. You cannot blame Real Madrid, Levy would have done the exact same thing.
