Chris Sutton is baffled by what he has noticed about Celtic and Rangers fans this season.

Celtic are on the verge of winning a third domestic treble in a row but there has been a lot of frustration in Glasgow’s east end this season with the club failing to show the dominance they have done in recent years and losing Brendan Rodgers to Leicester.

While in Govan, Rangers have had their most impressive season yet since returning to the Scottish Premiership with Steven Gerrard at the helm.

However Sutton finds it odd that Rangers fans are more positive at the moment because they have failed to win any silverware this term.

“It’s a very strange season because there’s a lot of Celtic fans who are very negative and they’re on the brink of a treble treble,” said Sutton on BT Sport 1’s Scottish Football Extra on Saturday [11:50am].

“Across the city, Rangers are trophyless and their fans are up and happy. I don’t get it.”

OPINION

Rangers fans are on a high at the moment because they have won five matches in a row and beat Celtic 2-0 at Ibrox last week in one of their best performances in a very long time. It hasn’t all been sunshine and rainbows for Gers fans all season, only in the last few weeks when the pressure has been lifted off the side and they have finally been able to play good football on a consistent basis against other top teams in the Scottish Premiership. Meanwhile at Celtic it is clear that they have been going backwards in the last year and a half and there have to be serious questions raised about the leadership at Parkhead. No one knows where the manager or most of the squad stands going into the summer so there could be a bit of fear that going into the unknown could lead to Rangers catching up with them as everyone at Ibrox knows where they stand.
