Rangers are sorely mistaken to think £500,000 is enough to sign Oldham defender George Edmundson based on the latest report about their interest.

The Sun’s print edition (Sunday May 19th, page 63) reported that the Gers were on the 21-year-old’s trail but only wanted to pay £500,000 to get him even though Steven Gerrard was personally keen on acquiring him.

The national newspaper claimed that the Rangers boss wants to beat Preston to Edmundson’s signature and pointed out Oldham were hoping an auction would push up the player’s price.

Given that Oldham are clearly hoping for more than £500,000 for their player by wanting an auction to improve his price, then the Gers are sorely mistaken to think that amount would be enough to seal a deal.

This is especially the case when you consider there’s already another team in the hunt in the form of Preston and likely to be other clubs sniffing around given the enforcer’s 2018/19 campaign.

Edmundson shone bright in his latest campaign as he featured 54 times and even managed to get two goals as well as five assists despite being a centre-back.

The centre-back is solid at the back, young so destined to improve and is comfortable on the ball; so when you consider that, Oldham will surely get their wish and teams will climb over themselves to offer more than the £500k.

This means that the Gers and Gerrard are destined to be disappointed if they don’t change their stance as the League Two side will want to get as much money as possible for Edmundson.
