It’s been some season at Ibrox. From the startling highs of a blistering start that had some fans hoping that this could finally be the year that they toppled Celtic, to the eventual collapse that has seen them have to settle for second spot and the consolation of having another go next term, it has been a rollercoaster. They might not come away from the year entirely empty-handed though, as it was announced on Wednesday that both Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos have been nominated for the PFA Scotland player of the year award, as reported by Sky. And that’s all well and good – both players have had fine seasons – but it has left many Gers fans a little baffled. For many, the fact that these two have been nominated, alongside Celtic duo Callum McGregor and James Forrest, but Ibrox captain James Tavernier hasn’t, is hard to comprehend. The full-back has had a fantastic season, it has to be said. A brace of penalties at the weekend against Aberdeen took his goal tally to 16 for the season, not to mention 20 assists. Admittedly, most of his strikes have been penalties, but that is still a formidable record to say the least. Perhaps the 27-year-old should feel somewhat aggrieved with the decision, but if one of his teammates wins it, you can bet that his frustration will dissipate pretty quickly.
