Liverpool winger Sheyi Ojo is set to be rewarded with a new five-year contract before joining Rangers on loan, according to the Daily Star.

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard is set to use his Anfield contacts again to bring Ojo in after deals for Ryan Kent and Ovie Ejaria last season.

Kent worked out brilliantly and Rangers wanted him back but he’s expected to move elsewhere. Ejaria wasn’t such a success and cut his loan spell short.

Good move for Rangers?

Absolutely. Loan moves don’t always work out as we saw with Ejaria, but they’re low risk and when they work out – like with Kent – they can really add to Rangers’ strength. This one could go either way. Ojo spent the last season on loan at Ligue 1 side Reims where he scored once and added an assist in 18 games, but he only managed three starts in the league. Not so hot, but Liverpool are convinced that he’s a talent waiting to explode, with the report claiming that he’s set for a bumper new five-year contract. This could be his time to shine and the Premiership will be a tough testing ground for him. The 21-year-old winger will likely be a straight swap for Kent and fans will be expecting big things from him.

Likely to happen?

If the Daily Star report has come from a good source then it sounds like the deal is all but done. It makes a lot of sense on both sides too. Liverpool want to get him minutes on a competitive stage and Rangers can offer him that. With Gerrard in charge they’re entrusting his development to someone they know extremely well. We think this will go through fairly quickly.
